About, sources and rights
Ski Area Factsheets is an independent 37xVentures / Doug Scott directory. It is not OpenSkiMap, not a resort operator, and not RockHopping (Channel Island events).
What we publish
- Named area, country, Wikidata / OSM identifiers
- Discovery-grade coordinates and bounding box from D1 (rounded)
- Stated elevation when the source record includes it
- Mapped activity tags (skiing, snowboarding, …) as source labels, not as current conditions
- OpenSkiMap area-profile fields from the latest approved importer snapshot available in the bound R2 bucket
- Selected dated Swiss SLF bulletin evidence from the approved historical R2 archive
What we do not publish
- Live snow depth, piste/lift status, webcams, route-level avalanche guarantees, or invented weather
- Piste-by-piste pages
- Raw source-precision polygons or complete source archives
- Booking, accommodation, price or affiliate-feed fields without a separately approved commercial contract
- Book, publishing or literary content
Source universe and licences
- Wikidata
- CC0 1.0. Credit: Data from Wikidata — wikidata.org. Terms checked 23 Jul 2026.
- OpenStreetMap
- ODbL 1.0 share-alike. © OpenStreetMap contributors — copyright. Adapted database must remain ODbL. Terms checked 23 Jul 2026.
- OpenSkiMap importer feed
- OpenSkiMap download terms; OSM ODbL and source-specific attribution. OpenSkiMap.org; © OpenStreetMap contributors; record-level sources retained. Terms checked 23 Jul 2026. 12,209 source rows; 6,825 have a publishable name. R2 import 2026-08-08.
- Swiss SLF avalanche bulletins
- Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. Attribution: WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF. Terms checked 24 Jul 2026. 362 dated source snapshots, 2024-11-01 to 2026-04-30; importer archive date 2026-08-08.
- Wikimedia Commons photographs
- Home and country hubs use one alpine landscape file (Pennine Alps from Mund, Valais). It is captioned as that place, not as a named ski area and not as every country listed. Only three named-area pages (Val d'Isère, Chamonix, Zermatt) show a photograph, and only because the Commons file depicts that place. Other areas have no photo. Author, licence and Commons URL sit on the figure. Not a photo farm.
If either D1 identity source is not approved and ready in source_registry, the established factsheets return HTTP 503. R2-backed pages likewise fail closed when their exact allow-listed binding or snapshot is unavailable.
Unavailable and future-gated sources
| Source | Public state here | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Copernicus | Unavailable — future gate | No resort-level Copernicus join has passed geography, interpretation and source-date validation. It is not bound to this Worker. |
| GBIF | Not applicable / not checked | Biodiversity occurrences do not answer this site's ski-area identity or dated Swiss bulletin questions. |
| EPC | Not applicable / unavailable | Property energy certificates are outside the ski-area entity and environment source universe. |
| Ofcom | Not applicable / unavailable | No approved resort-level communications-coverage join is present. |
| OFAC | Not applicable / unavailable | Sanctions records are outside the visitor task and are not joined to ski-area pages. |
| NOAA GSOD context | Not used | The approved importer covers five declared reference airports, not local ski-area conditions; presenting it here would be misleading. |
| Accommodation / affiliate feeds | Unavailable | No rights-approved, current site/merchant feed is connected. The commercial policy is described on trip planning. |
| Books and publishing feeds | Not applicable / excluded | Explicitly outside this site's scope. |
Geometry vintage
D1 database snow-sports, schema family activity-places v3, ingest 23 Jul 2026. Centroids/bboxes are discovery evidence, not a substitute for official mapping. Maps (when shown) use OpenStreetMap tiles; a non-map HTML table is always present.
